Gold Medal for ABK Kellerbier, Silver Medal for ABK Hell, Bronze Medal for ABK Edel at the High-Profile Beer Competition
The mood is frothy at ABK Brewery located in Kaufbeuren, after receiving 3 prestigious awards at one of the world’s leading beer competitions. On 13 November, ABK was awarded a Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the European Beer Star 2020 competition at the BrauBeviale trade fair in Nuremberg.
Bernd Trick – Head Brewer, proudly announced: Our beers have been recognised as some of the best beers in the world, and these much-deserved awards reflect the uncompromising commitment of our brewery to upholding our high production quality standards.
In the difficult Corona year 2020, 2.036 beers from 42 countries across all continents competed at the European Beer Star 2020, which was held for the 16th year in a row now. A 72-member judges panel, master brewers, beer sommeliers and established beer connoisseurs from Europe took part in a two-and-a-a-half-day blind tasting in early October to determine the winners of the gold, silver and bronze medals for 70 different beer styles. Objective ranking criteria were applied like those beer consumers themselves utilise, such as appearance, foam, smell, taste and characteristics typical of the variety. This ensures transparency and the propriety of the evaluation process. For Stefan Stang, Managing Director of the Bavarian private brewers’ association Private Brauereien Bayern, this is one of the reasons why the Beer Star competition has such a strong worldwide reputation.
“The phenomenal rise of our competition shows how important artisanal brewing has become and the great variety of beers being produced. We are proud that we managed to organise such a high-quality competition in these turbulent times”, Stang said, in commenting on the goals behind this year’s competition.
